Skiing and Sledging

Sledging at some of the frozen Glaciers is also offered by locals. Skiing facilities are as such not effered in Pahalgam, and areas around it. There are some potential spots where basic skiing activities can be organized in future in the winter months, like the slopes of Aru or Baisaran, of even the 'plateau' in Pahalgam. In summers, sledging is popular in Chandanwari.

Of late there is a lot of sleding and skiing activity being organised in Winter months all over Pahalgam. Check the latest schedule from the Jawahar Institute of Mountaineering and Winter Sports (JIMWS) at Pahalgam for the winter of 2006-2007.

The training programmes are organised by Jammu and Kashmir tourism department in collaboration with Jawahar Institute of Mountaineering and Winter Sports. Early in 2006, forty-two youngsters, aspiring to play in the National Skiing Games, took part in a 14-day ski training course.
The training course was targetted at the participants under the age of 20, who could imbibe skiing, and also to develop Aroo and Bisarn as ski resorts.
