In a major step towards ensuring a brigher future for the (Lidder) valley’s youngsters, Army Goodwill School was announced open in Lidder, Pahalgam.
Chief of the Army Staff, Major General Deepak Kapoor, accompanied by his wife Kirti Kapoor, inaugurated the school in presence of Secretary Education, G A Peer and Director School Education, Shagufta Parveen. Senior Army officials including GOC Northern Command, Lt General PC Bharadwaj, and GOC 15 Corps, Mukesh Sabharwal, were present on the occasion.
Spread over 250 kanals, the school has been constructed at a cost of Rs 12.43 crores. The school was envisioned by former chief of the army staff, General N C Vij, who along with Mr Mufti Mohammad Sayeed, the then Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir jointly laid the foundation stone of the school on November 26, 2004.
The first academic session of the school commenced on June 2, this year with 83 students.
The school is a co-educational, residential, senior secondary school.
